Quarterly Case Study Sessions

Everyone needs teaching inspiration now and again! Once a quarter, Educators using CES EduPack can join Dr. Claes Frediksson, who will present a new advanced industrial case study. After the session, the PowerPoint presentation with notes will be shared, ready to be used in the classroom. Please register for each individual case study web seminar session.

Water Containers and Plastic Waste

Broadcast dates: Sept 13 and 18

To engage today’s students, it’s important to find topics that are relevant to them. The current problem of plastic waste from packaging ending up in nature is an illustrative example. In this advanced industrial case study, we will show how the CES EduPack software can be used to understand and assess different approaches and options within product development and design, not least when it comes to environmental properties. We will use the Eco Audit tool to investigate material options for water containers, and offer tips for performing a practical exercise in the classroom in the form of a computer-aided, interactive group activity.

Join this session to:

  • Encourage students to consider the unintended consequences arising from materials decisions
  • Learn how to apply the Eco Audit tool to an important practical problem
  • Gain a useful example of a classroom/lab group activity using CES EduPack.

Presenter biographies

Dr. Claes Fredriksson

Dr. Claes Fredriksson has more than 15 years’ experience teaching Materials-related subjects to undergraduate and post graduate students in Sweden, Canada, Belgium and the U.S.A, mainly in Mechanical Engineering. After gaining an MSc in Engineering Physics and PhD in Theoretical Physics he worked in both theoretical and experimental research on polymers, metals and biomaterials. He has a passion for teaching and won a grant as part of Sweden’s Excellence in Teaching Programme to enable him to teach in the U.S.A. and facilitate the cross-pollination of pedagogical approaches.

Bridget Ogwezi

Bridget Ogwezi is part of the team working with universities in the USA, supporting the use of CES EduPack. She holds a B.Eng in Civil Engineering from the University of Surrey. She also holds an Engineering Doctorate from the Technologies for a Sustainable Built Environment Centre at the University of Reading, UK. Her research involved the innovative use of hybrid materials for sustainable design. She has worked with BuroHappold Engineering Facades, assisting in thermal analysis to improve building designs.
